About Rebekah L. Purdy

I was born and raised in Michigan (just look for the mitten-shaped state on the map). I’ve lived here most of my life other than the few years I spent in the U.S. Army.  At which time I got a chance to experience MO, KS, SC, and CA.

I work full time for the court system and in my free time I write YA stories. Pretty much any genre within the YA realm is game for me, but my favorites are fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, thrillers, light sci-fi, and some time travel.

I also have a big family–I like to consider us the modern day Brady Bunch. When my hubby and I met and got married, he had 3 children from a previous marriage, I had 2 and we have 1 together. It’s a lot of fun though.

And I can’t forget my other family members–yep, we’ve got some pets: 4 dogs, 3 cats,  and 1 turtle. Everyone in the family has one…I won’t bore you all with their names (unless you really want to know). Okay, you talked me into it! Jack, Pearl, Grr…(yes that’s my dog’s name), Callie, Shadow, Mooshoo, Grouchy, and Sorbert. Other than writing some of my other hobbies include: reading (mostly YA of course), singing, swimming, football, soccer, running, camping, sledding, church, hanging with my kids, and traveling.

I belong to a fabulous writing group called YA Fiction Fantatics (YAFF) and you guessed it we all write YA!

So, when I first got the opportunity to review this book, I was excited! The concept seemed so cool and I figured it would be an amazing first ARC to read for the blog.

Unfortunately though, I was extremely disappointed /: The author just didn't execute the concept as good as I had been hoping for. I'm sure if another author was writing this it would have been better, because with as good a concept as Rebekah L. Purdy had, it had the potential to be a fantastic book.

The main thing that bothered me was all of the love interests. It was basically a freaking love square and that bothered me to no end. Love triangles are bad enough, but a love square? Totally unnecessary. She "fell in love" with all three guys too easily. And I know y'all are gonna say "but Tia! The first two were using charms on her! She couldn't have fought it!" But she could have. You always see protagonists beat the odds and fight the compulsions that people try and put them under...but Salome didn't do that.

Which brings me to my other point. Salome was too dependent on those around her. She didn't do things for herself. She whined and let her fears control her. She expected everyone to just be there to save her and to answer her questions. Even when she started looking for answers herself, she still brought someone with her because she didn't want to do it alone. I just *growls* I absolutely hate protagonists like that! Grow a backbone! Be independent for gods sake! -.-

Although I liked the concept of this book, the execution just wasn't up to par. I'm sure there are people who would argue with me on this but this is my honest opinion and it's not going to change. The Winter People only gains 2 stars in my eyes, but if you want to see for yourself then go ahead and read it ^^ I won't stop you.

13 REASONS WHY

Jay Asher paints a beautiful and sad, but most importantly, an insightful story of a girl who commits suicide, and the 13 reasons why.




Cass's Pick:
ONE MOMENT
About a death of a boy, and a girl who was connected to it. One moment can change everything. I can't really remember if it was "dark", but I do remember that although it wasn't my favourite book, the story was really raw and surprising.




Ryann's Pick:
 IF HE HAD BEEN WITH ME
Death.. Loss.. Attempted suicide.. Pregnancy.. Loneliness, in a way.. This book sorta has it all, minus the sexual abuse that seems to be a recurring theme in these books. Quite the opposite actually, our MC seemed to be in control of her body at all times ^.^

White Chocolate ~ Your favourite lighthearted/humorous read

Tia's Pick:

BIGGEST FLIRTS
This book is light, flirty, and funny and is should be read when you're in the mood for a good laugh ^^ it doesn't hurt that the MC is named Tia either ;)

Belle's Pick:
HEIST SOCIETY
This is a really cool, light read about notorious teenage thieves who've grown up with.....ohh right, thieving parents and grandparents! They'd give good bedtime stories.....

 Cass's Pick:
REBEL BELLE

A hilarious urban fantasy read! Will brighten up your mood :D There were loads of laughing moments, and our heroine is just so funky. There's a bit of a stupid triangle though. Just sayin.




Ryann's Pick:
EMBRACE
I haven't read embrace in a while, but every time I do I laugh. I don't think i'm supposed to laugh, but I do XD Even though I love this book, I also love making fun of some of the events mentally. Hmm.. I never did read those sequels...

Milk Chocolate ~ A book that's gotten a lot of hype and that you're dying to read

So many teasers! I seriously can't wait for this book to come out!! *fangirls*




Belle's Pick:
THE QUEEN OF THE TEARLING
I love YA fantasy, and there's a LOT of hype surrounding this book, considering it was announced it was to be made into a movie with Emma Watson BEFORE it's release! Wowzers. A must read.

A MONSTER CALLS
Even though it's sort of a short children's book, I love Patrick Ness's books and writing and this one has gotten SO many positive reviews; I need it now. Now.

Chocolate with a Caramel Center ~ A book that made you feel all gooey inside while reading it

Tia's Pick:

JUST LISTEN
This book was just simply amazing and made me melt at every page. Such cute and gooey relationships!

Belle's Pick:
BITTER SWEET LOVE
Sooooo XD I haven't really read many 'gooey' books, so this is as close as you're gonna get from me...*sticks out tongue* Yeshh, it's a novella ^^ But it was a great intro into the Dark Elements series, and I think it was totally gooey worthy ;P

Cass's Pick:
THIS IS WHAT HAPPY LOOKS LIKE 
A girl and a guy, strangers to each other, connect over a mis-sent email, and their relationship goes even deeper. This book is just so SWEET ermahgosh. I stayed up laaate reading this, and was smiling like an idiot just from the prologue.

Ryann's Pick:

THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER
The Truth About Forever was really cute. I love Sarah Dessen :D Like me, Macy lost a parent. Unlike me, Macy tried hard in school due to this. Anyways, there were some parts that made me all sad, like any normal human being would feel, but most of the book just made me smile and go "awwwww~".

Wafer-Free KitKat ~ A book that surprised you lately

I thought it was going to be this silly book about beginnings or whatnot, but it was really unexpected and good!

REBORN

I picked up Reborn because I loved Shadow Falls, despite a hateful review of a former friend of mine. I wasn't expecting much, because the rest of the books I had read recently sucked, but I was up as late as I could before my dad woke up reading that book. I love Della, I love everything. I love Shadow Falls and the plot and the characters, and even though I guessed a little of what happened, there was sooooo much more to the story. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

I actually thought that too, but when I picked it up and got into it, it was utterly magical and I fell in love with all the characters who has now become part of my bookish family. <3

I have read this book probably 4 times since I found the series! Such a light and funny read that makes me feel better every time! ^^

THRONE OF GLASS

ToG, weirdly enough XD Even tho it doesn't exactly bring on the warm and fuzzies, it's comforting to me because it comes from my fav genre EVER, the genre where I feel at home :D

HARRY POTTER 

Duh..  Harry Potter will always be my comfort food. *huggles* If you haven't read it........ I have nothing to say to you 0_o Seeing Harry grow up all over again, reminiscing in how I met the characters all those years ago, Hogwarts..I feel at home. I can also still remember my favourite teacher's voice reading this to us everyday in class like some sort of stereotype grandma..except she was really young..yea <3

 THE IRON QUEEN

The Iron Queen. My love <3 For whatever reason, whenever I read TIQ I feel really happy. I usually read it when I just need to feel better, and Ash and Meghan always make me feel better :D The vows though... You know what, I can't. I love this book too much.

Box of Chocolates ~ A series you've read that has a wide variety and a little something for everyone

THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS

This series has everything! Vampires,werewolves, angels, demons, romance, action. They're books anyone could read!

Belle's Pick:

THE DARKEST MINDS 

There are feels, lack of instalove (I felt the need to add this ;P), aammaaazing writing detail especially in Never Fade, and a MC who, while she's not flawless and she struggles constantly, she's got a strong resolve, and I really connected to her personality <3

Cass's Pick:
CHAOS WALKING TRILOGY  

Although the YA's on a little more juvenile level because the character's ages and such, it has deeper meaning and can connect with all readers. The writing style is amazingly unique and realistic, and you won't be forgetting it anytime soon. A dystopian :D Really well written.

Ryann's Pick: 

STRANGE ANGELS 

Strange Angels is pretty close to the Mortal Instruments if you ask me. Only... the man character is a badass from the very beginning and there are (WHY?!) no warlocks :( You have your vampires, your weres, your ghost and ghouls and everything in between... Only thing that really makes me like Strange Angels more is the fact that it has zambies :D ZOMBIE FAN OVER HERE, WORSHIP ME AND BRING ME YOUR PRESERVATIVES.

Another *cough*late*cough* Addition to the Misses Blog!

Hey y'all! Tia here ^^ so considering that I have recently joined the FM and know what it's like being the new kid *winks* I think I'll start the Q&A for our new addition: Ryann aka LittleMissPessimist! *clears throat and begins questioning*

Tia: Why did you get into blogging?
Ryann: I never did write reviews for books unless I felt extreme emotion towards them, but I realised that when I do write detailed reviews I feel all happy for getting my opinion out there, and since you guys had a blog that I was totally invited to and I had lots of time I wanted in XD I'm kinda bored...
Cass: *overhears from sideline* You joined because you were bored?! *cries* But great to have ya here, bud ;)

Tia: What weapon would you choose in a zombie apocalypse?
Ryann: NORMAN :D Norman is my beautiful compound bow that has served as my sidekick since... Christmas! Yeah! I'm not that good though and I can't find half of my arrows :P

Tia: What are your favorite genres?
Ryann: Um... YA? XD The books I read these days are either romance, contemporary, or supernatural... No judgy-judgy, kk?

Tia: What do you do in your spare time?
Ryann: In my spare time I like to watch anime, read (no kidding), ummm... Play the Attack on Titan Tribute Game, courtesy of Feng Lee, write... Mer. I sound so lonely XD OH! I like shooting :D 

Tia: What animes are your favorites?
Ryann: SUCH a beautiful question ~ What to pick, what to pick... Fairy Tail, Soul Eater, Angel Beats, Naruto, Clannad, Durarara, Blue Exorcist, Hetalia.. Ummm... I love anime <3 Ouran High School Host Club, Sword Art Online (I don't find it entirely overrated, unlike SOME people... But to be fair, I hadn't heard about it until I watched it. I thought it was some anime about art XD), Attack on Titan (epic plot, not so epic MC)... That might be about it for some of my favourites :/ Diabolik Lovers, Uno X Boku SS, Kamisama Hajumemashita... I think that's it, for real this time XD

Tia: What was your first YA book?
Ryann: The City of Bones ;) So cliche. Ah well, it was beautiful when I read it...Four years ago XP I still love the series, just not the ending so much. I can't wait for Lady Midnight though <3

Tia: Milk, Dark, or White chocolate? This is very important xD
Ryann: Milk chocolate :D I like dark chocolate of course, but it leaves this bitter aftertaste on my tongue that feels unpleasant after a couple of pieces. I could eat milk chocolate for hours~ Oh... I don't remember ever trying white chocolate by itself 0_o Is it good? XD
Tia: I think that it tastes okay...not better than dark or milk though xD
Cass: I don't like white chocolateee..

Tia: What do you look forward to as you start your first year of high school?
Ryann: Um. Um. Well, it's school... I don't really want to meet a whole bunch of new people, that's just more people to watch out for :P However *off topic*, I saw a very attractive male specimen today when I was walking around looking for my Geo class... His dad and my dad gave each other what one-armed bro hug thing, when they grab hands, pull each other in, and then give the other guy a slap on the back... His son and I made eye contact and we kinda shrugged and I held my hand out and said my name was Ryann, but he didn't answer, just shook my hand... So we are presented with three options. One, I am unattractive. Two, he's gay. Three, he's shy :P I HAVE BEEN WONDERING ABOUT HIS NAME SINCE I GOT HOME LIKE WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?! Oh, I did hear him say that he has the same Geo teacher as me... Is it bad that I hoped we were in the same class? XD But anyways, I guess I just want to pass all my classes while managing to have some fun or my life is going to be miserable. I'm in all honors and one AP class, and I really want to do well so I don't have to repeat anything. It's a miracle that I passed Algebra, so I'm hoping Rachel and Tia will help me again if I need it, and maybe Belle ^.^ So there's your answer, academic success XD

Tia: Academic success is the best thing to look forward to XD But learning that guy's name has it's perks *winks*
Belle: Yeshhh yeshhh 'course I'll help :P
Cass: XD Nice Rhy. and I like how I'm the only person you wouldn't come for maths help mwahaha... which is kind of sad o.O

Cass: What is your favourite name for a girl and a guy?

Ryann: For a girl? Umm, probably something unusual. I like the name "Tala" a lot, but I don't think it's something I would name a child. For a boy? I'm sorn between Noah and Jason. Don't ask me why, please don't XD

Tia: *pipes up* What are you torn between Noah and Jason, Ryann? *mischievous smile*

Ryann: XD I love Noah, I would literally name my kid Noah, but Jason? I just like the way it sounds to me okay XD IT DOESN'T NEED TO MAKE SENSE TO YOUUUU

Tia: *cackles and lets Cass continue*

Cass: What are your top five countries?

Ryann: Um. I had to think about countries for a moment XD I got them confused with continents. *Ponders Hetalia*

4. South Italy (I had Romano there for a while before I remembered WHAT Romano was XD THEY USED TO BE SEPERATE OKAY?!)

Ryann: My theme song? Well... It's either "Numb" by Linkin Park, "Unwell" by Matchbox 20, or "My Demons" by Starset. I'm leaning towards "My Demons" today :P

Cass: What instrument do you want to learn the most?
Ryann: I like listening to music, but I'm not a fan of playing. Something to fit my personality XD You tell me.
Tia: I think you would be good playing the guitar...what do you think Cass?
Cass: Guitar? Ooo... how bout the electric guitar? That's a pretty awesome instrument xD
Belle: Bahaha Cass ;) Yeah probs guitar ^^ I don't know many instruments and that's the best bet XD

The second Lux novel...Just as good as the first :D  I absolutely love Onyx. This one doesn't focus as much on the relationship, although that is still very present, between Katy and Daemon, but focuses a lot on Katy and her growing powers.

Yep, you heard me right. Katy has powers. Apparently, when Daemon healed her that night in the clearing, he altered her DNA somehow to where she became a hybrid of Luxen and human. Obviously neither Katy or Daemon tell anyone else about this because of the fact that it's forbidden for a Luxen to heal a human.

Then Blake come strolling into town...God I hate him. He deserves all the wrong names that Daemon calls him throughout the book and so much more. If I were Daemon and Katy, I wouldn't have let him go at the end of the book. I know that too many people had died that night (some that broke me hear :( ) but come on! Look how much trouble he caused you! And how much trouble he's gonna cause you later one!! Ugh..Just...UGH! Flake you really get on mah nerves.

*takes deep breath* Okay..Now that that is done xD I'd also like to point out that Will, the doctor that Katy's mom is dating, is a complete ass and needs to be taken care of pronto. I can't believe he was using her mom to get close to Katy just because he wanted to be healed forever like she had been. I get not wanting his cancer to come back, but that was low, and I want him dead.

...It seems like I'm a violet person due to these rants about killing people...but I swear I'm really not XD

Now that ending...O.O I just have to say that was really unexpected. I mean for him to come back without her and everything...I never did understand why DB came back without looking for her...And just to tell you guys, I'm not gonna say who I'm talking about *evil laughter* Y'all will just have to read the book :D

Sorry this review was so short /: I tried so many times to write this review and it just didn't work out so well. That don't mean I didn't love the book though xD It's still one of my favorites

I have to say that this movie was pretty good. I was expecting something a little different from watching the trailers, but the actual movie still surprised me in it's own way. Lucy, played by Scarlett Johansson, who might I add was the perfect actress to play this part, wasn't injected with a drug like I had originally thought, but had come in contact with a drug that caused her brain to open up to unfathomable capacities when the bag inside her stomach, put there by her captors, had ruptured.

Through the whole movie, she was trying to figure out what was happening to her and how the drug could do what it was doing to her. She was also looking for the other people who had had bags put in their intestines so that the same thing didn't happen to them.

Morgan Freeman played a professor who had been researching the different capacities of the brain and what would happen if humans were able to unlock more than 10% of their brain. Lucy was pretty much the end of that research due to the fact that she was the only human on earth to have ever unlocked 100% of her brain's capacity.

Everyone who played in this movie were exceptional and there wouldn't be better actors to play the parts. This movie was action packed and had just enough serious life lesson parts to make it interesting.

The ending...That was a fantastic ending. "I am Everywhere." Lucy, after unlocking that final percent of her brain, didn't need the physical body of a human. She was able to be everywhere, in everything, and she shared the knowledge she had learned with the professors and scientists that she went to for help.

I give Lucy a 3.5 because even though it was good and intriguing, it still had it's boring parts and seemed to be kind of like that movie Limitless, just at a much larger scale.
