I wanted to like this book, but....I couldn't. I just couldn't.
This whole story was so unrealistic, I couldn't believe a single thing that happened. Not to mention that the drama rivalled a YA Wattpad story. And hey, I'm not saying I don't like Wattpad stories, I do (well, depends on the story), but Watty stories usually need a lot of work. They might have potential, but they're generally extremely raw.

I had so many problems with Ignite. For instance, why were the three little step-siblings dumped on Lauren in the first place? Firstly, she's not (view spoiler)[for the most part (hide spoiler)] blood related. Didn't Linda (the stepmum) have any family? Secondly, just because her Uncle's wife has 'flare ups' – whatever that means, doesn't mean they can't take the kids. It may have been a bit hard, but if push came to shove, they could've taken them. Thirdly, don't they have any Godparents or close family friends? Fourthly, Lauren has a twin brother, who had just as much legal connection to the kids as she does.
So what then, she has to give up her youth to look after three kids who she'd never even properly met just because she's the only apparent female who isn't prone to 'flare ups'? What about the fact that she's 21? What about the fact that she's virtually a stranger? What about the fact that she's halfway through college?
(view spoiler)[And let's face it, if Lauren's dad didn't have this surprise magical money stash that he passed onto her and her twin (wow.....convenient much?), there's no way she could've single-handedly paid for her college fees at the more expensive sister campus (colour me surprised! *note the sarcasm*) that she'd need to attend to look after the kids. And if she couldn't pay for her college fees, she would've had to drop out of college, and then how would she be able to support herself and 3 kids? But of course she was saved by her huge inheritance. An inheritence she didn't even know about. That she finally receives 9 years after her dad actually died. It's completely ludicrous. Another problem was how much of a weak, dramatic pushover Lauren was.
Her Uncle and his wife literally ordered her to look after the three kids, and she just......let them. Forgetting the 'flare ups' joke, it seemed to me that they just didn't want the responsibility of taking care of the kids even though (1 they're older and Lauren's uncle is a lawyer so they'd have a steady income (2 there's two of them whereas Lauren would have to act like a single mum, and (3 they're much more familiar with the kids while Lauren has never even really met them (I can't help pointing out that it seems that Lauren was estranged from her dad....another reason why it's unlikely she'd be given the kids).

Then you have the love interest. Oh my. It just gets worse and worse. Dean's character fell flat from the get go. He was a total jackass at first (and I don't mean in Daemon's swoony style), and somehow Lauren was attracted to him? There was way too much insta-attraction and insta-jealousy, and Dean and Lauren's connection didn't feel one bit sincere.
Oh, and then there's the matter of his past. What. A. Laugh. (view spoiler)[Son of a drug lord?? Seriously?? (hide spoiler)]

Lauren mentions how Dean 'somehow got through her walls', and that she's some kind of ice queen *snorts*, but tbh I don't think she had any to begin with. She's very.....*cough* emotional. Hell, she started crying because of clam chowder and food poisoning! Yeah, I get it, food poisoning has to suck, but she's 21 and she cries over practically everything. She should start carrying a tissue box.

The only aspect I liked about the story was how the six of them, Lauren, Dean, Callie (the oldest kid), Jenny (Dean's little sister and Callie's best friend), Chase (the middle kid), and of course little Emma (the baby of the three kids), were like one big motley family where Lauren and Dean were halfway between parents and older siblings to the kids/teens. It was cute, I admit.

So yeah, I couldn't get through Ignite, and ended up DNFing it, but quite a few of my blogger friends liked it enough, so I guess it's just me really. I'm glad other's enjoyed it tho :)

I was in the cover reveal for Reluctant Prince, so when the blog tour came up, I decided to give it a go. However, RP wasn't what I expected and I didn't end up putting my review in the tour. I still participated though :)

I guess my main problem was I couldn't connect with the story. I love this kind of genre, but in Reluctant Prince there were a number of issues and the writing started off quite awkward, though it did improve through the book.

There was a rather large misconception. The tagline in the synopsis says 'Betrayal lies cloaked in shadow.' Yes, there was a betrayal. But I couldn't say that it was 'cloaked in shadow'. I don't know about anyone else, but it seemed rather obvious where the betrayal lay from the start.
(view spoiler)[I guess it wouldn't be as obvious if I had known how Kai acted before the events in Reluctant Prince, but because all I've read is Kai acting 'off', I'm judging him purely off his recent behaviour, and his recent behaviour was obviously suspect.
There's also the part where Kai was talking to someone – presumably Daygan – via a portal, but when Kai mentioned that Ryleigh beared the mark of a Queen, the presumed Daygan was surprised. But Daygan already knew about the mark from when he captured Ryleigh. So it wasn't Daygan, but then who? I have a sneaking suspicion of Chayce *gnaws lip* It'd be a horrible betrayal, but it would explain how Daygan knew of the tunnels..... (hide spoiler)]

And then there's the issue of Cymmera's hierarchy. I understand that this is a fantasy story and it doesn't necessarily follow the usual ideals, but how could it even be remotely possible to condemn the crown prince over something as trivial as failure to complete a task? And that the kingdom's 2nd in command (since when did a monarchy hold such a mundane term as 2nd in command anyway?) has greater power than the crown prince and almost as much as the King? And a horrid 2nd in command that contradicts the king at every turn at that ^^
Although I don't know a great deal about monarchies, this seems rather unseemly.
That said, I enjoyed the fantasy aspect of the story, with the two realms vying for power. Yes, I'm an obsessed fantasy lover ;) #guiltyascharged

There was also the problem with Mia's –Ryleigh's little sister– age.
It's like the author had trouble separating her views from that of the main characters. Sure, for Dani-Lyn's age, Mia can probably pass as a 'little girl' at 14 years of age, but in the eyes of Mia's sister Ryleigh, who is 17, or the eyes of Jackson, who is (equivalent to) 19, Mia isn't a little girl. She's a teenager, and only a few years younger than Ryleigh. And yet in RP, if Mia's age wasn't mentioned, I would have assumed that she was perhaps 8 or 9 years old, except for when she started blushing over a boy. So for me, Mia's character building was jagged and non-consistent.

The plot and most of the characters were interesting enough, but I couldn't really focus on the good points because of the distractions and issues I found while reading.
Overall, I think the series has potential, but it wasn't executed as well as I'd hoped.

So. I kind of had high expectations for this one, because I watched the film first (the horror!), and the film was amazing. The whole way it was delivered and the ideas behind it were beautiful! So naturally, I thought 'If the FILM was this good, then the book must be mind-blowing! Since books are always better than movies.'  Unfortunately, this was one of those rare cases where the movie was actually kind of better than the book ^^ Even though there were minor things I wished they included. 

THE BOOK: 

I didn't connect to the characters much. Maybe because they couldn't feel emotion (yes you heard me right), or maybe because it was in third PoV, but for some reason, I didn't emotionally feel them. Or make any kind of special bond. That was a bit disappointing. 

If the characters weren't up to par, then the plot must have made up for it, no? No.

The plot was alright, with the exception that Lowry built the tension up and up and up and up.........and then..... wait what? 

I didn't get it! All that building between Jonas and the Giver, and then THAT'S how it ends? 

I was just left in my seat so confused. 

Of course, as I mentioned, I watched the film first, so I knew it was going to end like that. But what I thought was that books have more detail. It's deeper. You understand everything so much more clearly. 

It couldn't have ended that simply! It's just weird. Maybe I was supposed to analyse it or something... *shrugs* Maybe I will someday. 

I spent about half an hour reading up on other people's reviews, working out the ending for myself. Some people loved the ambiguity of it, some did not. I'm in the latter, but I understand the whole 'vague' sense the book also thought was necessary. After all, it's really hard to resolve books with a confusing plot aim. 

Sometimes, open ended endings are great, but other times, they fall flat. Instead of making you ponder your meaning on life, they confuse the heck out of you until you eventually lower the rating.

I haven't talked about the concept quite much, so i'll start now :P

This is a "perfect" world. From when you're born, the government has your life planned out for you.

They stalk watch you until you're 12, and they decide on the perfect job for you based on your personality. You can apply for a spouse when you get older, and they'll give you a perfect match. You then apply for kids, and babies (up to 2) will be handed to you. When you get too old to work, you get sent into the House of the Old until it's your time of Release.

^ your whole life.

Dun dun dun.

People take pills everyday to erase emotions. Of course they don't know that they are because they don't know what emotions are. They're just doing it because it's in the rules. So simple o.o

They also can't see colour. I think that's the worst... colours are the most beautiful things <3 I would die! The book really makes you grateful for this world right now and that you're in it. 

Basically: 
Good- Concept 
Meh- Writing Style, Characters, Ending. 

THE FILM:
I loved the movie. The reason why I watched the movie first and then the book after (normally I NEVER do that. I don't want to be spoiled for the book.), was roughly like: (I have bad memory so everytime I tell this scenario it's different xD Whoops. But whatever)

Mum: Guys let's watch the Giver
Me: But I haven't read the book! :O
Dad: Who wants to watch the Giver?
Mum: ME
Bro: Me
Dad: we're going to watch the Giver! 
Me: XD Outnumbered.
Dad: Just close your eyes and eat your food or something
Me: *actually attempts* ... (yes I did do that. Don't ask me why.. I can be overdramatic)

But of course, I ended up watching it because as soon as I saw one scene, I was hooked :P 
The visuals are done really well, and the casting is also great. I don't think there was enough character development in Jonas' family, but that's alright.

At the end of the film my family was like "That was awesome!"
My dad: Doesn't make any sense
Me: *rushes to grab book*

But yeah, the movie was a liiiittle more amazing. :) I would really recommend you to see it if you haven't. It doesn't matter if you haven't read the book for this one, since there aren't any big plot twists or such hehe ;) If you have seen it, tell me what you thought! :D So curious.

Aand somehow this became a book/movie review! ;P

So one of my long time GR besties (it's been over a year omg!), the lovely Rachel over at A Perfection Called Books, recommended Lailah to me! Rach is one of the Founders of the Styclar Street Team, so naturally she loved Lailah and ordered me to read it xD

I admit I had a few problems with Nikki's writing. For the most part it was rather good; sure it's a bit raw, but rather engaging, especially for a debut author. What irritated me was these few phrases or words she used once in a while that really rubbed me up the wrong way. Yeah I know, I can be really picky sometimes XD

“That was some good hurling, Cessie! I’ll try to make the rest of the journey a little less bumpy.”
Umm....what?!

My toes were vibrating and had swelled in my shoes. The balls of my feet sighed with relief when I took my weight off them and collapsed into the passenger seat.
o.O Vibrating......

An elated tingle raced through me as he pawed the top of my panties.
Makes 'he' (no spoilers :P) sound like a perverted creep ^^

Do you see what I mean? Those phrases and words just don't fit or meld in smoothly with the rest of the writing. For me they stick out like sore thumbs and, putting it bluntly, I think the words haven't been used correctly.
It's like when I was a kid and looked up synonyms to replace my original words with because I thought that good writing needed a lack of repetition, so I'd replace words with a synonym. And yes, to a certain extent it's true, too much repetition doesn't make for smooth and engaging writing, but trying too hard isn't good either, and randomly replacing words will disrupt the writing.
Not that I'm implying Kelly did that XD but the result is the same, and I'm just putting it out there that choosing the words you use is very important because if you don't have a clear grasp of the definition, or how the word is interpreted in society today, it creates jagged writing rather than the smoothness that surely all writers thrive for.

I adored the plotwork tho! It's pretty unique because we have an abundance of angel books and vampire books, but bringing together them is a rather new concept, and I think that Nikki Kelly did a really good job :)

Also I heard a few people say that this book was dark, but I personally didn't see that at all. Sure there was an attempted rape, but it wasn't remotely graphic so I didn't really feel the severity of the moment and for me, Lailah definitely didn't cross the border from YA into NA.

Lailah wasn't the worst protagonist, but I didn't like her that much because too much emphasis in this book was put on the romance rather than the action and mystery of the situation.
She spent most of her time daydreaming about either Gabriel or Jonah and acting like a pining teenager, and an insecure one at that. Her thoughts literally do this:
I love Gabriel!
Oh no I'm too plain and Gabriel's gorgeous....he'll never love me *wail*
But I know Gabriel loves me!
Noooooo Gabriel doesn't love me!
Errmegoshh Jonah is sooo haawt! *fans face*
I shouldn't want Jonah, but I do. But I must save myself for Gabriel!
What should I do?! *distressed look*

Isn't she meant to be two hundred years old? I know she doesn't remember a quarter of her previous lives as a source of wisdom but *sigh* xD

Gabriel is an Angel, and Lailah's lover back in her first life. Of course, being a classic vision of an angel, he's all blonde hair and vivid blue eyes ;) I liked Gabriel, I did, but I didn't understand why he didn't just tell Lailah everything from the start. His secrecy seemed kind of pointless to me, as if it was only there to create tension and drama ^^
Plus he's too nice to Hanora aka the vampire he saved years and years ago.....but more importantly the vampire who has the hots for him.
I get it, okay? He saved her, and she's been with him for a 100 years *rolls eyes* But. I. Don't. Care. *huffs*
I hate her, and I certainly don't understand why he lets her just strut around and plaster herself on him! If it's true that he's a light soul, and she's a dark soul, which means he could never like her that way, why doesn't he seem totally disgusted by her antics? It makes no sense >.<
I am leaning towards Team Gabriel tho......I just hope he'll stop being an idiot XD

Jonah. Hmm. At first he got on my nerves because I didn't understand his stalkerish behaviour. I mean, sneaking into Lailah's room when it's locked and she's having a shower? o.O #creepalert Plus at one point he physically restrains her and tries to forcibly make her show him her injured shoulder! #controlfreak
But as it turns out, there's a reason for it. One, because he managed to fall in love with her *whispers* whyyy her Jonah? You could do so much better XDD And two, because he drank her blood (vampire remember?) and that means he became connected to her in a sense.
He's also a self proclaimed bad boy, and by bad boy I mean, he totally rocks the hot jerk role :P But he's a good guy at heart and also has a sweet side *flutters eyelashes* Yup I'm officially a sucker for rude hot fictional characters!

With JLA's The Dark Elements at the forefront of my mind because of Stone Cold Touch's impending release (I'm counting the days!), the love triangle in Lailah suddenly reminded me of the love triangle in TDE! In both series, one love interest in a 'light, pure soul' while the other is the 'dark soul' (bad boys alert ;P), and the protagonist is a 'hybrid' of sorts in both series! :D Coincidence whoa!

And now it's time to discuss the two other female characters......who have both caused a certain level of grief for Lailah with their attachments *cough*obsessions*cough* with the two love interests -___-
Hanora majorly pissed me off because she seemed like one of those characters that have no purpose other than to get in the way of a relationship! You know the type that causes a lot of drama and misconceptions and has a total lack of genuine character personality or arc? Yup, that's Hanora with her ridiculous century-friggin-long obsession for Gabriel. It's soooo annoying! What will it take for her to grasp the concept that he's not into her??
At least with Brooke there was a reason for her possessiveness over Jonah! (view spoiler)[She couldn't survive without drinking his blood, which caused her have a forced attraction towards him and a high level of possessiveness and jealousy....which only increased the more she drank.....which will continue forever, unless one of them dies ^^ (hide spoiler)]
So while Brooke did get on my nerves a couple of times, I couldn't stay resentful because it's not her fault. Hanora on the other hand......well.....let's just say, she's on my hit list for fictional characters ;)

The revelations near the end and Lailah's sudden 180º decision (view spoiler)[aka her decision to die because of what her 'father' told her, (hide spoiler)] seemed really rushed and poorly thought through, but once we got past that stage everything seemed to fall into place. And that ending.....ohh that ending!

The very end was so epic I almost forgot about all my earlier misgivings. I got the same feeling I did when I was watching Breaking Dawn Part 1 for the first time, and I hated most of that movie! But the end where Bella is just lying there then her eyes snap open.....yeaaaahh same feeling at the end of Lailah ;)

So yes, while I see substantial room to improve in Lailah, there is certainly great potential, and I can't wait to read the second instalment of the Styclar Saga, Gabriel (maybe it'll be in his pov *fingers crossed*), when it is published :) I'll be on the lookout!

So sad to say that it didn't really live up to my expectations. The book started out great, but then sloped slightly downhill onwards? 

I liked Lia enough. She's tough, independent, and isn't going to back down for anyone anytime soon! Who doesn't like a strong heroine :) 

The love interests, sad to say, were kiiind of....... stupid. *well that escalated quickly* xD

One assassin, and one prince. We don't know who is who until like 60% through, and though that might have been creative, it didn't work for me since I guessed wrong and that ruined both the characters for the rest of the book. -.- Like, I've never read anything that did this before, so all throughout the book, I thought I missed something in the description and went with stereotypes to determine their identities. Mistaaaakeeee much? I'll have to reread it with the right set of mind.

And, the way these two guys met each other was ehhhh, and too much of a coincidence. So Lia fled the castle and is now working at a bar, right? (*points up to synopsis*)

So before going in the bar, the prince (assassin?) sees the assassin (prince? ..you could tell how confused I was) near a water fountain. He goes like "Hey, travelling alone draws more attention, no? There's another lonely looking gentleman! Imma go and get him a drink so I can blend in. They have nooo idea who the other person is. And they both promptly fall in love with the princess after she serves them drinks. 

Me: Well that was fast.. she sure draws men easily 0.o

They both want to be near her (For their personal purposes) so they become bestie roomies! They never do anything and never leave! They always help out at the inn and never run out of money! And they both like Lia! Well that's not weird at aaalllll *nods slowly* She should be more watchful.. like they could be creeps! But she also fell in love quite quick *cries with frustration* 

The one thing I liked though was that Lia isn't like a lot of heroines; she doesn't "love both of them and can't choose which one she likes better (because men are totally like sweets you select in a store *rolls eyes*)." She only likes one dude, and thinks the other one is just "a really nice person." 

With the exception that she flirts with the other guy sometimes to gain attention of the person she likes ... Meh. At least it isn't a triangle. I've been avoiding those kind of books.

Throughout this whole thing, a very bored Cassie is sitting there half asleep like WHY ISN'T THE ASSASSIN ASSASSINATING?! Honestly. If the assassin (whichever one that was) fell for her within a minute, where's the action gonna beeee? :((

Conclusion: The action did not come until 70%. (and STILL the assassin did not do anything; that came from the barbarians and other assassins.)

So what was happening during those 350 (i'm a math GENIUS. BOW DOWN TO ME) pages? 

Ask someone else *facepalm* I have no clue.

I did know that the setting did not change at all, and that there was this scene thing about a scroll... I think that was quite important...  and... um.. oh yeah Lia's poor brother visited her and delivered some news ( :( ). Nothing particularly much. I think the book could have been cut down in volume a lot. 

I mean okay, I may be exaggerating a bit (it wasn't that slow, but for ME personally it felt like forever), but I expected awesome fight scenes and ogres (on second thought; nah) or something! Not my faultt.....I just expected different things to happen.

I liked the magical element the author put in the story though! It reminded me of ToG a lot. Even if a bit confusing, i'm definitely going to pick up the sequel to see what happens on that note. 

Conclusion:

An okay fantasy book, lopsided polygon romance, weird love interests with an identity crisis, and slow progress in storyline. Overhyped. Sorry :P

You see, there were parts that I absolutely LOVEDDD. But then most of the time I wanted to claw Tia's eyes out and bash her head into the wall! *hisses* She was just so fixated and scared that she did practically everything wrong :/
This book is sooo wrong! XD Tia sobs when she accidentally does well in sumfin *facepalm* And she wants Will all to herself but refuses to date him! And Will is an introverted cosmic flirter.......but only with her? o.O The flirter part, obvs :P And so he half-dates the straight-A dibby dobber Angelica, who I feel obliged to hate because I'm reading in Tia's POV xD but still flirts with Tia, and then gets mad at her everytime someone comments on their flirting *rolls eyes* #riddonkculous
But it was a seriously hilariousssss read XPP

I couldn't help becoming attached to the characters in the book because they were so flawed in their own ways that I wanted, needed, to see them truly recognise their mistakes and finally succeed. I really hope that Tia learns from and retains the life lessons she gained in the book.

There was also a serious tone to the novel. The underlying themes were quite relevant to youths in problematic circumstances and showed that mind sets cemented at a young age are quite hard to break, but you can get there and it is always possible if you put the effort in. Yesssss I'm talking about Tia XD *snorts*

So yeaaaahhh. Half the time I wanted to throw the book at the wall and yet as the story concluded, I couldn't help smiling broadly, because the characters had grown so much from the beginning, and it was such a privilege to read.......even if they're technically just charries written up on paper, in fact, especially that they're written up on paper; there's just something so magical about it and the thoughts of the author really emanate through.

I was a teensy bit peeved that we don't know for certain what happened with Twill........yeessssss my ship name ;P But I suppose the open ending was more fitting of the book *pouts* I just wish we'd been given concrete proof *sad sigh* Tho good newsss! There are more books in the series (even though they're not centred on Tia and Will *sadface*) so in any luck we'll still hear more of them xD

I wasn't sure how many stars to give Biggest Flirts, but in the end I decided to go with 3 stars :P

Unfortunately, it wasn't good as I hoped. If i'm being honest, I don't even know why I picked it up because I usually don't read steampunk.. oh wells. The story is centred in London with a "street rat", Maeko (half Japanese), who gets sucked into this mystery revolving around a cat with a clockwork leg. Interesting? Mehhh..

The mystery was a bit laggy. It didn't really feel like a mystery either... Just some gal and an attempt at a love triangle, running around places trying not to get caught. I was bored at times, and had to really push myself to carry on till the end. (*cough* That's why it took ages to finish this..) It wasn't like the "I can't continue on for the life of me, please kill me now" feeling though. Some parts were actually decent. Just I think the general story could have been improved.

The romance didn't work.
Seriously, the love triangle just didn't make sense in this one. A plain one to one could have done fine! Just because most YA books have triangles these days, there is NO NEED to grab a random male character and stick it in a love interest position :/ It's like... Ash's interest was believable. Sorta.
He's never seen her before, he's in a higher social cast, and well, she's interesting enough. A teenage half Japanese spunky girl hiding around the streets of London getting herself involved with really dangerous situations. Okay, i'll take that as a reason for romancee? XD

But the second guy, Chaff, has been her mentor of how to survive since she was really young. They have a special bond.. and then *DUN* Ash comes in. Chaff gets jealous. He turns into a mentor/friend/family to 'love interest' overnight.
Right.
Well then.

And then Maeko's all conflicted like NO WHO WILL I CHOOOOSE D:
*ends up not choosing anyone*
*book is a standalone*

Wth?

(It bothered me that Maeko was always saying "i'm not a rat!" but then she always called herself a rat.. Self confidence is the first step, darlin'. But I did like you somewhat :D Strong laddyy)

The writing was cool, I must admit! McCormack did a good job portraying historic London ^.^ Well the language anyways. I didn't really read much about the setting.. maybe she thought "Hmm where shall this scene be set... Pffft. London language, steampunk, yeah. The readers will know where the characters are right now. Just some random place in London. *shrugs and continues with story*"
Me: Whattt *is a bit confused through out the book*

Oh, and since mine is an ARC copy, I hope they proofread this before publishing xD McCormack slipped up and used "mom" twice near the end.. *looks around for editor* HELLOOO?

The ending was terrible! and not in a good way.
I recently (as mentioned above) found out this was a standalone? From Lola's review?
Sigh.. This was a big mistake :/ I hope the author really changes this decision. You can't leave a standalone in a cliffhanger, unless you're planning on finishing it.
And it wasn't like even "Eleanor and Park"'s deliberate 'open ended' ending. (btw that was an overhyped book, people. Overhyped book. Jus saying XD) This was a real honest CLIFFHANGER. Not that I would read the second book, but you just can't do that! IT'S NOT THE WAY OF THE UNIVERSE. *pulls hair*

Overall, it was a bit of a easily forgettable read with a dragging on mystery (ish) and characters that didn't stand out (notice I haven't said much about them. Ain't really anything to say..) , an unnecessary love triangle, and a confusing plot. Should really be a sequel even if I won't read it, and i'm immensely glad I managed to finish it.

So, when I first got the opportunity to review this book, I was excited! The concept seemed so cool and I figured it would be an amazing first ARC to read for the blog.

Unfortunately though, I was extremely disappointed /: The author just didn't execute the concept as good as I had been hoping for. I'm sure if another author was writing this it would have been better, because with as good a concept as Rebekah L. Purdy had, it had the potential to be a fantastic book.

The main thing that bothered me was all of the love interests. It was basically a freaking love square and that bothered me to no end. Love triangles are bad enough, but a love square? Totally unnecessary. She "fell in love" with all three guys too easily. And I know y'all are gonna say "but Tia! The first two were using charms on her! She couldn't have fought it!" But she could have. You always see protagonists beat the odds and fight the compulsions that people try and put them under...but Salome didn't do that.

Which brings me to my other point. Salome was too dependent on those around her. She didn't do things for herself. She whined and let her fears control her. She expected everyone to just be there to save her and to answer her questions. Even when she started looking for answers herself, she still brought someone with her because she didn't want to do it alone. I just *growls* I absolutely hate protagonists like that! Grow a backbone! Be independent for gods sake! -.-

Although I liked the concept of this book, the execution just wasn't up to par. I'm sure there are people who would argue with me on this but this is my honest opinion and it's not going to change. The Winter People only gains 2 stars in my eyes, but if you want to see for yourself then go ahead and read it ^^ I won't stop you.

Okay so first off I want to say that this is going to be more of a rant than a review XD 

Okay so where to begin? How about I start with the fact that this author HAS NO SENSE OF VOCABULARY!!!! I mean come on! How many times do you have to use the words 'huff' and 'I love you'? It's like "OKAY WE GET IT! YOU LOVE EACH OTHER! MOVE ON ALREADY!!"

The writing was terribly flat and seemed like a fifth grader wrote it. I can even write better than that! How she got published I will never know *shakes head sadly*

Next we have the characters. First off it was a love triangle. That right there constitutes a bad book already. Then she makes it a freaking love square that was totally unnecessary.

This whole book was really unrealistic too! I mean I seriously doubt anyone would meet someone, fall in love, and get prego in the couple months that she lived there. WHO THE HELL WOULD THAT HAPPEN TO? LIKE SERIOUSLY?

If I was Brandon I would have flipped out if I learned my girlfriend cheated on me! But noooo he's "perfect" and steps aside so Harper and Chase can be together -_- stupid stupid stupid. Like anyone would ever be that selfless.

Oh! And even when she finds out that she's prego and breaks up with Brandon? She STILL waits to tell Chase that they're having a kid! Who would do that? Don't you think that the father would want to know right away that he's going to be a dad? Stupid biznotch. ((Yes I'm stealing Ryann's word. Get over it XD))

So she cheats on Brandon and then tells Chase that she loves him but can't be with him because she loves Brandon too and doesn't want to hurt him. COME ON HARPER!! YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!! She disgusted me so much!

Then! It gets even worse -.- So apparently the author couldn't choose between who she wanted Harper to be with because just when you start loving Chase and thinking that things will finally end in a decent way, he dies -.- seriously? You're seriously going to do that? Why have this whole cheating, pregnancy thing if you're just going to have her end up with Brandon in the first place? 

I guess I'm just angry with the fact that the author made the characters so ditzy and unrealistic that it made it painful to read. I could barely get through the last few chapters because I wanted to throw the book across the room every five seconds -.-

So yeah *dusts off hands* that's about all I'm gonna say regarding this horrible monstrosity ^^ see ya next time, bloggers!

When I started this, I had been excited! I had been hearing wonderful reviews for it saying things just made so much more sense and that it was a great way to end a series. 

But while I agree with it wrapping up loose ends, I don't agree with is that it was amazing. I was actually disappointed with the book.

For one, it was too damn long xD it felt like it was drug out and that everything that happened could have happened without the extra 200 pages. 

On top of the length, I felt that some of the things that happened were completely unnecessary or just didn't make a lick o' sense. I mean...Jordan's death? And Maia's reaction? That could have been dealt with differently. She didn't even seem sad for goodness sake! All she said was "I was going to break up with him." Who in their right mind would say that when someone just died instead of being upset about it? Ugh just...no.

Also...Sebastian's death...WTF? "He smiled, closed his eyes, and died." By the Angel! How can you end him like that??

He was a major character and you barely gave him a proper death! This was a big disappointment Cassie Clare /: I actually wished he would have survived the heavenly fire...that would have been a fantastic ending, one no one was expecting. But I get why he died, it was expected. What wasn't expected was the complete lack of emotion behind his death.

MALEC!! My OTP <3 they got back together which I am so so happy about! I nearly died when Magnus was going to give up his immortality so they could get out of Edom. 

 I probably would have had a heart attack if he would have died DX but it all worked out with them and was one of the only things I was happy about in the book ^^

Simon :( what happened to him, losing his memories, was probably the most heartbreaking thing that happened in this book. 

He lost everything, or so they thought.

I was about to go on a ranting escapade if Simon didn't remember who he was to everyone in the shadowhunter world, but he DID remember. At least a few details *cheers* AND HE'S GONNA BE A SHADOWHUNTER!! Now him and Izzy can be together without people looking down on her for being with a downworlder!!

Emma Carstairs is one kickass kid man. I look forward to reading about her in TDA! Her and Julian's relationship was so cute and it pissed me off that they were going to become Parabatai /:

Now they can't be together for realsies! Which I want to happen D: *sighs* Cassie you've crushed my dreamsss!

The book overall wasn't great but the ending made it worth it. I gave it three stars but would still recommend that the people who want to have things cleared up and have all the loose ends tied up read it.

*shuffles papers* Now down to business.

To be honest with you, because that was the point of giving this to me; I didn't like that book. There I said it! I did not like that book at all. Then why did I give it 3, you ask. I reply BECAUSE THE CONCEPT WAS COOL OKAY? and I managed to finish it. :P 

If you asked anyone that knew me what kind of book I was reading, they would say "That weird MirrorX clone book she keeps complaining about" XD Probably. I dont know. But yes I complained about it a LOT. Sorrryyyyy :P

I mean it had a good message and all I guess? It was emphasised quite strongly. Life is precious. They said that phrase... *types it in search box* 15 times. It that doesn't seem like that much if you look it like this, but BELIEVE me it gets annoying XD We get it. Life is precious. Repetitive much? It's like their motto or something! Well it probably is but stiiiilll. 

The dialogue: To be frank: Boring. It was SO stiff you don't even know. It's like.. every character learnt English out of a foreign "How to Speak English!" Textbook. You know how like if you learn a foreign language, the sentences they teach you are really.. proper.. and quite unnatural in modern speech? I mean no one talks like that! *pulls hair* HAVE SOME SLANG PEOPLE. Just because you live in the 31st century. These 31st centurions - which was probs the wrong word- are ugh. Or hey maybe stiff is the new natural there ! It IS the future after all so you can't compare it to here... but yeah -_- 

Characters: PAPER CHARACTERS. Absolutely no depth to them. Their personality is like da winnddd for goodness sakes! If you want to write a good book, plan out your characters as well as the plot. For me, the plot is also important (hence the 3 stars instead of 2), but the CHARACTERS are even more important. If the characters are annoying, I will put the book down. And not like "flawed" annoying, because I do agree characters are also people, and for them to be realistic, they need flaws. BUT KVKFGVVKJGVN THESE WERE NOT FLAWS, IT WAS JUST.... THE CHARACTER HAD NO CHARACTER!!!! It would act one way, and then it would act totally differently. Like the author just wrote without analysing and thinking of how this person is. Me didn't likey ANY characters here....:/

General story: It was unique. I'll give you props for that! but the way is was portrayed and delivered just..wasn't right.   

*OH MAH GOSH I JUST NEARLY HAD A HEART ATTACK BECAUSE I PRESSED THE BACK BUTTON AND I THOUGHT I LOST MY REVIEW DX

Oh yesh. Now i'm not going to tell you the story because i'm lazy and you can just read the synopsis. GUYS STOP SKIPPING OVER THE SYNOPSIS XD *i'm watching you sign*
and I don't think I can tell you anything without giving too much away. (Ignoring the fact I practically spoiled the whole book to the people I complained to... sowwy guys :3 Thanks for putting up with moi  XD)

Oh yeah another point that annoyed me: Cassie kept shouting for no reason -_- Everyone kept shouting! It's an overusage of shout! I don't really like that word in a book.. I dunno why, but it makes the dialogue look too simple. "I shouted. He shouted. We shouted. I starting shouting. He started shouting." Mer. Vocab, people. We have the thesaurus! :D 29 times of the word shout isn't bad- I've seen worse cases- but some words just stand out to me.. and I don't really like that... XD Yes i'm picky I know *sighs*

I don't really know what else to say right now... but bottom line:
It was a relatively good book for an author who hasn't written that many books yet (I think. I can't remember.. I stalked her GR account >:))  , and it had a cool concept with an interesting idea. But it wasn't my style. I love reading futuristic books because we never know what'll really happen and it's really interesting to see all these people's ideas! and Karri Thompson was no exception! Whiiich I can't tell you due to potential spoilers. but Just the writing needs to be improved a taaaaaaad more. I read other's reviews about this and most had the same thing for a complaint: The middle was too draggy and it ended too abruptly. and I agree! That was what I was thinking while I read. Way too much time was spent on it, and then BAM! some twists, and THE END, BYEBYE NOW PLEASE WRITE AN HONEST REVIEW PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

The twists though..
Um. I....liked the effort? :p *winces* I wasn't BAD...but....yeah...it was like "Oh yeah I just thought of something that could happen. TWIST. Oh yeah something else popped into my head! TWIST.
Me: NO. Just stop. I can tell these twists weren't planned out as much as it could be. Yes it was surprising- the whole meaning of "plot twist", but it didn't work. 

aaand I just botched my bottom line XD
Bottom bottom line:
Interesting sci fi book, could have been written better, dialogues were stiff and unnatural, paper people, failed twists. I don't of any means say it's a bad book; like I don't think this should stop you from reading it, but yeah XD It just wasn't mine. At least I didn't put it down! I've been putting loads down lately..

and seeing if we aren't annihilated by this time, this idea of 3022 really could be real. Scary.
